The Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society (HGMS) is affiliated with the following organizations:
The Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies, Inc. (SFMS) was organized in 1976 to bring about a closer association of Clubs and Societies devoted to the study of Earth Sciences and the practice of Lapidary Arts and Crafts in the Southeastern part of the United States. The Southeast Federation includes clubs and societies mostly in the region east of the Mississippi River and South of a line following the northern borders of Tennessee and North Carolina. **There are a few clubs outside of this area due to historical affiliation. The Southeast Federation is a member of the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. For more information, see Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies.
The Dixie Mineral Council (DMC) is an association of field trip leaders within the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies who have agreed to join together to take turns sharing field trips with other DMC clubs. Clubs in the program take turns sharing one of their field trips with other clubs in the program. This increases the number of field trips a club can offer their members, and members enjoy a variety of field trips all over the southeast. For more information, see DMC Field Trip Program.
The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies is a Non-Profit Educational Federation of Seven Similar Regional Organizations of Gem, Mineral and Lapidary Societies. Founded in 1947, the purpose of The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies is to promote popular interest and education in the various Earth Sciences, and in particular the subjects of Geology, Mineralogy, Paleontology, Lapidary and other related subjects, and to sponsor and provide means of coordinating the work and efforts of all persons and groups interested therein; to sponsor and encourage the formation and international development of Societies and Regional Federations and by and through such means to strive toward greater international good will and fellowship.
