Welcome to Our Website!
The Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society (HGMS) is a non-profit 501(c)(7) educational organization for people interested in the Earth sciences – gemology, mineralogy, geology, paleontology, lapidary arts and related fields. Our primary purpose is to educate our members and the general public in these areas. We offer interesting programs at our monthly membership meetings (Next Meeting); exchange rocks, minerals, and fossils; provide presentations to local school children and organizations; and host field trips.
We welcome members of all ages including kids ages 8 – 18. (Our Pebble Pups youth program has monthly meetings and field trips of their own!) We also have an Annual Fundraising Auction, an Annual Picnic and Rock Swap, an Annual Gem, Jewelry, and Mineral Show, and an Annual Christmas Dinner. Plus, HGMS members have access to a state-of-the-art lapidary shop and jewelry crafting activities (wire working and metalsmithing).
The Huntsville Gem and Mineral Society is a member of the Southeast Federation of Mineralogical Societies (SFMS) which is a member of the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS).
2024 Show Follow Up
Our vendors have packed up and moved on. Our kids’ activities, displays, and demonstrations have been put away for another year. Thank you for making our Show a success! Whether you spent 20 minutes browsing or came back every day to find more treasures, we appreciate your support. A big thank you also to the HGMS members who gave their time and talents setting up the Show, volunteering during the Show, and taking it all down. We couldn’t have done it without all of you!

October: Tourmaline – This gemstone occurs in many colors, including the remarkable intense violet-to-blue gems particular to Paraíba, Brazil, and similar blues from Africa. A favorite of mineral collectors. Opal – Opal’s microscopic arrays of stacked silica spheres diffract light into a blaze of flashing colors.
