Black diamonds were named carbonodos (after the Portuguese word for burnt) by Brazilian miners who first found them in the 1840s. The 3,167-carat Brazilian carbonado known as “Sergio” is the largest diamond ever found. Scientists can’t agree where these unique diamonds came from – the Earth’s mantle or outer space!
