Did You Know? In January, researchers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center identified the world’s oldest asteroid crater: a 43-mile wide impact structure in Yarrabubba, Western Australia. By analyzing radioactive elements in sample rocks, geochronologists determined that the collision occurred about 2 billion years ago. The impact sent 100+ billion tons of water vapor into the upper atmosphere possibly triggering a period of global warming. Source: The Week, February 14, 2020

February: Amethyst - The purple variety of the mineral quartz, this gem often forms large, six-sided crystals. Fine velvety-colored gems come from African and South American mines. Amethyst is always in demand for jewelry at all price points. Source: https://www.gia.edu.
